A2LA WPT Biobanking Course Now Available Virtually

Earlier this year, A2LA WorkPlace Training launched “MS 180: Understanding ISO 20387:2018, General Requirements for Biobanking,” a first-of-its-kind professional training course designed to comprehensively cover ISO 20387:2018 for biobanking facilities. As part of the Virtual Classroom product rollout, MS 180 is now one of the many classes available as a live remote option. In addition to removing the need for travel, Virtual Classroom will make this unique and specialized A2LA WPT class accessible to more learners across the country.

MS 180 provides valuable insight on how to interpret and apply the requirements of ISO 20387 to support quality in various biobanking organizations. The material in this course is an excellent foundation for professionals pursuing accreditation to ISO 20387, but is also a valuable quality resource to anyone performing or seeking to perform biobanking functions at their organization. ISO 20387 is applicable to all types of biobanking facilities, covering multicellular organisms (human, animal, plant, and fungus) and microorganisms for research and development. For more information about ISO 20387 and how it differs from similar standards, such as those for medical laboratories, access the A2LA document “ISO 20387 vs. ISO 15189”.

As with all A2LA WPT courses, learners will participate in discussions and activities to help reinforce the concepts introduced by the instructor and will have the opportunity to discuss their own facilities and procedures in the context of ISO 20387. Key topics covered will include quality management system components, types of governance bodies, critical equipment, biobanking funding strategies, and process requirements, as well as important foundational information about identifying and applying the specific requirements within the standard. Learners will actively participate in several hands-on activities, including a practice audit on several important biobanking functions. The class will culminate in an exam to test participants’ understanding of the subject matter.

The next Virtual Classroom MS 180 course will be held on April 29th and 30th 2020, with expert live instruction accessible from anywhere with internet connectivity.
